“Back at design school, we drew everything with pen and Magic Marker. An effective technique was to use coloured paper – the colour of the object you were rendering – and draw in black pen. Add black shadows and an accent colour slightly darker than the paper. A touch of white for highlights and the drawing leapt from the page. Of course, computer graphics soon changed all this.
